Hybrid vs EV: a short guide for beginners
Both can save fuel money, but charging, range, and upkeep differ a lot.
Hybrids (HEV) pair a petrol engine with a small electric motor. No daily plugging; savings shine in stop-and-go traffic.
Plug-in hybrids (PHEV) have a larger battery for limited pure-electric range, then switch to petrol. They fit best if you can charge at home or work.
Battery EVs (BEV) have no petrol engine: smooth response, energy cost tied to electricity rates, and simpler drivetrain care—but long trips need charging plans.
Match the ecosystem: public chargers, home charge time, and daily distance. For 30–50 km city days, BEV or PHEV often fits. For frequent intercity trips without chargers, a regular hybrid is calmer.
Check battery warranty and resale support. Tech moves fast; pick brands with clear service networks near you.
Whatever you choose, driving style still rules consumption: harsh acceleration wastes energy even in an EV.
