Fuel-saving tips for heavy city traffic

Traffic does not have to drain your tank. Throttle, A/C, and cabin load matter a lot.

In traffic, fuel waste often comes from habits: hard accel/brake, max A/C all day, and unnecessary idling.

Leave a safe gap so you brake less. Gentle throttle keeps modern injection systems happier and more efficient.

Set A/C to a comfortable temperature, not the coldest. Recirculate mode cools the cabin faster so the compressor works less.

Switch off unused loads: stacked chargers, seat heaters, or cabin lights in daylight. Small amps add up.

If you are fully stuck and idling for several minutes, some cars save fuel by shutting off—check the owner’s manual, especially for turbo engines and start-stop systems.

Underinflated tires increase rolling resistance. Check pressure cold, using the door-jamb or manual spec.
