Check your battery before you get stranded
A weak battery rarely fails without warning. Spot the signs and check it at home.
A fading battery usually warns you first: slower cold starts, dim cabin lights before the engine runs, or a brief battery warning light.
Start with a visual check. Terminals should be clean, cables tight, and free of strong odors. Corrosion can be cleaned carefully with a soft brush—switch off the engine and disconnect the negative terminal first if needed.
If the battery is 2–3+ years old, get a load test at a workshop. That beats guessing from starter sound alone.
Cars with start-stop systems or heavy aftermarket audio put more load on the battery. Avoid long idle periods without regular drives; the alternator needs running time to recharge fully.
Keep a portable jumper pack if you often leave the car parked for days. Preventing a roadside no-start is cheaper than a tow.
