How To Maintain Car AC So It Stays Cool And Comfortable On Every Trip

Weak air conditioning often makes driving exhausting. With simple at-home care, your car’s cooling system can stay efficient and save on service costs.

Hot weather on Indonesian roads makes car AC essential on almost every trip. If airflow feels weak or a musty smell comes from the vents, basic maintenance is usually overdue.

The cabin filter is the part drivers forget most. Dust builds up, airflow drops, and the cabin feels stuffy. Clean the filter every two to four weeks and replace it around 10,000–15,000 km depending on road conditions and usage.

After starting the engine, wait 30–60 seconds before turning on the AC so the compressor can stabilize. Use recirculation in city traffic to keep cool air in, but open outside air occasionally to refresh the cabin.

Keep the condenser in front of the radiator clear of leaves and dirt for efficient cooling. Run the AC at least 10 minutes a day, even in the rainy season, so seals and compressor lubricant do not dry out.

Finally, schedule AC service at least every six months so a technician can check refrigerant, leaks, and overall cleanliness. These simple habits keep long trips comfortable without sudden weak cooling.
