How To Check Radiator Coolant To Prevent Engine Overheating

Checking the radiator fluid regularly prevents engine overheating and serious damage. Ensure the engine is cool, the fluid level in the reservoir is between the MIN and MAX marks, and use high-quality coolant instead of tap water.

1. Check only when the engine is cool (wait for the pressure to drop)—do not open the radiator cap while it is still hot.

2. Ideal level in the reservoir tank: between the MIN and MAX marks; add coolant if the level is below MIN.

3. Use anti-rust coolant with a high boiling point; tap water can cause rust and scale buildup.

4. Check weekly or before long trips; perform a full coolant change every 20,000–40,000 km (or according to manufacturer recommendations).

5. Signs of low coolant: engine overheating, A/C not cooling effectively, and abnormal rise in the dashboard temperature gauge—immediately inspect the hoses/clamps and the cooling system.
